Amazon.com video review: Based on a true story, this dark, disturbing comedy goes in unexpected directions and makes you laugh at the most appalling things. At the center of this story is the aptly named Harold Guppy (Rupert Graves), an orphan who is fresh out of the navy in 1950s London. He finds a situation as a boarder in the Beasley household, where husband Stanley (Matthew Walker) is no match for his hard-working, ever-industrious wife, Marjorie (Julie Walters). Marjorie, put off by the notion of sex with her husband, hungrily pursues the idea with her handsome young lodger, which triggers bouts of jealousy from her budding teen daughter, Joyce (Laura Sadler). This leads to an unsavory triangle; the sharklike Marjorie can't get enough of Guppy, leading to the shocking finale. Walters is a juggernaut and Graves plays a seeming innocent who can't get out of her--or his own--way. --Marshall Fine
