As a publicity stunt, Paramount placed a huge cut-out of Holli Would on the D of the HOLLYWOOD sign in Los Angeles. Although they didn't have to pay any fees, the studio still had to make a donation of $27,000 to the sign's maintenance fund, another $27,000 to the Rebuild L.A. fund (this was just after the L.A. riots), and the cost of two park rangers to guard the sign 24 hours a day.

Cool!!!

I am a big admirer of Ralph Bakshi's work. I have not seen many of his creations yet, but still I love his 'The Mighty Heroes' series, 'Mouse Trek', 'Fritz The Cat', 'Coonskin', 'Heavy Traffic' and 'Mighty Mouse, the New Adventures' series. Plus, I have never found rotoscoping 'distressing'. I can't understand all those Bakshi fans, who complain about 'Cool World' and talk on some flaws in it. If it has some flaws, I don't think Bakshi is guilty of them, firstly because we all know that Bakshi had problems with making 'Cool World' in the way he wished it to be made. secondly, I don't consider 'Cool World' a one man art and therefore I think it won't be fair to blame the director in everything.

But, still, with all the problems and all the possible flaws 'Cool World' might have had, it was very easy for me to fall in love with this movie/cartoon from its first frame. What attracted me? In fact there are so many things in this film you can be fascinated with. With its cascade of multitudinous, multicolor and multiform cartoon characters (the number of characters was really huge, I doubt there are too many cartoons with so many characters strictly created for the particular film), with its crazy pace of speedy and breathtaking action, with various things of various belongings falling from the sky right on the poor heads of immaculate creatures and with its absolutely marvelous animation, 'Cool World' is a film worth seeing and worth loving, at least for a little bit.
