The Miracle Worker (1962)

Anne Bancroft's character warns Helen Keller's parents against putting her in an asylum. Bancroft's character had grown up in an asylum, so she mentions the frightening people she encountered including prostitutes and others with diseases, babies born to inmates(70 out of 80 who die), and a passing mention of women who go after girls. This discussion is in response to the parent's thoughts about putting Helen in an asylum.

There are many scenes where Anne must physically restrain young, undisciplined Helen. Before the climax of the movie, young Helen throws dishes, scratches, hits, and throws fits.

There are no bar scenes and no noticeable use of these substances.

The most intense scenes involve Anne (as the teacher) attempting to train a very wild, undisciplined young Helen Keller. Except for a few face slaps, Anne does not hit her. Young Helen hits and bites Anne.
