The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this new feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes .

Sex & Nudity

There is no nudity; however, sex is subtly mentioned (as in other G-rated films), and it is also very subtly implied that Billy and Julie go off to consummate their relationship when they walk off together hand-in-hand after he kisses her for the first time. In the next scene,a local fisherman says that it is "peculiar" that both have left town at the same time, to which Cousin Nettie responds "Nobody in our family ever did anything to be ashamed of." Then, Julie and Billy arrive, already married.

During a clambake, Jigger comically (and unsuccessfully) tries to seduce Carrie Pipperidge. There is mention made about him trying to carry her into the woods.

In an angry moment, Mrs. Mullin says to Julie and Carrie "I don't run my business for a lot of sluts".

Violence & Gore

Billy slaps Julie, though this is not shown at all. He is later seen threatening her with the back of his hand. For this behavior, he is rumored to be a habitual wife-beater, though he is not. He later slaps his daughter's hand in frustration, when she refuses a present that he has literally brought her from Heaven.

Jigger Craigin pulls a knife on Mr. Bascombe, intending to rob him, but Bascombe wrests the knife away. He then pulls a gun on Jigger and Billy while waiting for the police to arrive. Jigger flees and Bascombe fires two shots, which miss their target. This alerts two nearby policemen.

Billy dies by accidentally falling on his knife while trying to escape from the police after the attempted robbery. Although the knife is seen falling out of his chest, there is very little blood shown, and what there is is nearly imperceptible (one must look very closely to see it.)

Profanity

Although there was mild profanity in the stage version of "Carousel", it has all been removed or changed to G-rated language.

Billy enjoys drinking beer from time to time, though he is never shown doing it. Jigger is shown drinking something at the clambake, though it is never made clear if it is coffee or an alcoholic beverage. Jigger later tells Carrie that he would swim through beer with his mouth closed just to see her.
