Storyline

The marriage of struggling Wiesbaden ballad singer, Willy Forster, and seamstress Therese is plagued with constant financial difficulties. After a heated argument Willy leaves Therese, unaware that she is pregnant by him. Thus, Therese becomes a single mother when Evie is born. She raises her daughter with the help of Willy's friend, Peter.

Fifteen years later, Willy, who now has an international career as a singer under his stage name, 'Bill Perry', returns to Wiesbaden as part of a European tour. He goes straight to see Therese, who does not mention that they have a daughter. However, Evie is a big fan of Bill Perry and she gets to know him anyway. Therese confides in Evie the truth about her father, and the girl later tells Willy that she is his daughter.

However, Willy's visit does not bring about the expected happy ending. Instead, Therese and Peter recognize that they are really meant for each other, and Willy comes to realize that his happiness does not lie with Therese, but ...

Quotes

Peter Schroeder: So... and does Willy already know?
Therese Forster: No. By the way, he hasn't changed at all.
Peter Schroeder: Ah. Well, neither did you, Therese.
Therese Forster: What do you mean?
Peter Schroeder: Well. You aren't none the wiser.
[pause]
Peter Schroeder: Well, maybe it was a good thing that he arrived before our wedding.
Therese Forster: You are so enigmatic today. I don't understand you at all.
Peter Schroeder: Then think about it, Therese.

This movie doesn't deserve a 6/10 average
17 April 2004 | by See all my reviews

I always feel like I have to explain why I like this movie.

The beginning of the movie is really stupid: a woman is married to a professional singer and divorces him because he sang a love-song looking to another woman in the audience. For the people who keep watching after this scene, there is a nice hour of movie-watching coming.

Sixteen years later. The divorced woman's daughter falls for a singer. The movie is about how everybody reacts upon her crush. It is a sunny story with songs that stay with you all day. The characters are friendly and all persons react really logical on the events.

I hope more people watch this, and become to like it.
