3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Dangerously In Love II, Jun 29 2004
Beyoncé was obviously the star of the movie The Fighting Temptations, and she conveniently appears to be the star of this soundtrack as well. She appears on eight of the fifteen tracks, and the songs she doesn't appear on even seem to be Beyoncé-flavored (see Faith Evans' "Heaven Knows").

But that doesn't mean this album is worth throwing in the trash. There are some good performances turned out by the likes of Ann Nesby ("I'm Getting Ready") and Shirley Caesar ("The Stone"). But the fact that several gospel songs are mixed in on an urban album may make things seem a little disorganized (but Missy Elliott had a hand in producing, so that's not really surprising). However, some people will probably argue that the movie dwelled on singing in a gospel choir, so those tracks fit perfectly well.

Anyway, there ARE a few missteps on this album, like the cheesy title track performed by Beyoncé, Missy, MC Lyte and Free (the VJ from 106 & Park). It's hard to distinguish between MC Lyte and Free anyway because they both rap exactly alike. And "I Know" by Destiny's Child neither helps nor hurts the album. There's another song, "Rain Down", by Angie Stone and Eddie LeVert. Angie sings well, but Eddie LeVert's scratchy (for lack of a better word) vocals don't sound right on an uptempo song. He sounds better when he's at home with the O'Jays later on the album on "Loves Me Like a Rock".

The rest of this soundtrack is okay, but as reviewer Reginald D. Garrard said best, none of the songs really stand out on their own. Basically only buy this album if you're a huge fan of the movie or of Beyoncé.

5.0 out of 5 stars This soundtrack is, by far, the best out there along..., Sep 14 2003
By William (Columbia, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This soundtrack is, by far, the best out there a long with the funniest movie of the season! This soundtrack has extremely good songs that are really inspiring and with really good beats. "Fighting Temptations", which is the 1st track, is a hot beat and makes you wanna dance, while "He Still Loves Me" talks about, even though you think you're not worthy and you're not special, He still loves you. This whole album really makes you feel good and you should share it with everybody you know!
