At the time of its release, this was the watershed for soundtracks, selling a kazillion copies. It documents Whitney Houston's character in the Kevin Costner movie, which required Houston to play only herself (although one hopes she wouldn't end up with someone as smarmy as Costner). The album is as much a testament to the production of Babyface who, through the mid-1990s, actually was the mainstream of contemporary hit music. Houston's singing is much better than her acting, and almost every song enjoyed a long tenure at the top of all the charts. Along with "I Will Always Love You" and five other Houston songs, the soundtrack also features Lisa Stansfield, Kenny G with Aaron Neville, and Joe Cocker with Sass Jordan. --Scott Wilson

Tout chez Whitney Houston semble l'avoir prédestinée au succès international. Ses ascendants d'abord, qui connaissent soul et gospel sur le bout des doigts pour les avoir pratiqués - sa tante n'est autre que la célèbre Thelma Houston dont le hit "Don't Leave Me This Way" est encore dans toutes les mémoires. Ensuite, sa voix, élégante, qui est propre à séduire un vaste auditoire. Son physique, enfin, qui la fait débuter comme mannequin et l'amène à jouer au cinéma dans "Bodyguard" au côté de Kevin Costner. Réalisé en 1992, ce disque est son quatrième où brille la ballade sucrée à souhait "I Will Always Love You" (une reprise de la chanteuse country Dolly Parton). I Will Always Love You emerged in 1992 with 14 weeks at No. 1. and for four years it was the longest #1 single on the Hot 100 singles chart until One Sweet Day with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and We Belong Together also from Mariah Carey in 2005. Run To You, I Have Nothing and I'm Every Woman were huge hits for this diva- whose popularity took a dive after the Bodyguard soundtrack and her last two albums failed to generate any interest. Well, Whitney Houston will be remembered for this awesome soundtrack and this soundtrack produced one of the greatest songs of all time. I Will Always Love You is one of the best love songs of all-time and this album is a must-have for every Whitney Houston fan. Was this review helpful to you?
