Mary-Kate Olsen Hospitalized

Actress Mary-Kate Olsen is recovering in a New York hospital after undergoing emergency surgery for a kidney infection. The 21-year-old was forced to watch the season finale of her hit TV show Weeds from a hospital bed after being hospitalized on Monday. Olsen's representative Nicole Caruso says the star is "resting comfortably and will be released in the next day or so." The former child star recently said she was in good health following her 2004 stint in Utah's Cirque Lodge to treat an eating disorder.

Watts To Star in 'Da Vinci Code' Prequel

Actress Naomi Watts has been lined up to appear in The Da Vinci Code prequel alongside Tom Hanks. The Ring star will play the female lead in the Ron Howard-directed Angels & Demons, reports New York gossip column PageSix. But filming on the movie has been postponed until February, as a direct result of the Hollywood writer's strike. Sources claim Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman's script still needs work, and he is on strike with his Writers Guild of America brethren. The film bosses have also put the movie's release date back from the end of 2008 to 2009.

Depp & Cruz Movies Postponed Due to Strike

Two movies starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz have become the latest casualties of the Hollywood writers' strike. Depp was due to have started filming director Mira Nair's Shantaram in February, but the production start date has now been called off. And Cruz was to have teamed up with reported boyfriend Javier Bardem, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard and director Rob Marshall for Nine, which has had its start date postponed from March. Members of the Writers Guild Of America (WGA) began their industrial action on November 5 after failing to negotiate a better financial deal for royalties from DVD and internet sales with producers and movie executives.

Quaid's Babies Given Accidental Drug Overdose

In Good Company actor Dennis Quaid's newborn twins have been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital's intensive care unit after they were accidentally given a drug overdose. Quaid and his wife Kimberly welcomed Thomas Boone Quaid and Zoe Grace Quaid into the world on November 8 - but the tots are now fighting for their lives at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Sources claim the babies were given 10,000 unit doses of anti-coagulant Heparin by mistake on Sunday morning and again that evening - newborns usually get just 10 units, according to website Tmz.com. The twins - who were carried by an unidentified surrogate mother - began to "bleed out" on Sunday night and were taken to the hospital's neo-natal intensive care unit, where their condition is now said to be stable. The babies are 53-year-old Quaid's second and third children - he already has a 17-year-old son with his ex-wife Meg Ryan.

Nye Requests Restraining Order Against Former Fiancee

TV star Bill Nye has requested a restraining order against his former fiancee after she allegedly tried to poison him. Nye, also known as Bill Nye, The Science Guy, sought the order in a Los Angeles court on September 4, after spotting his ex, Blair Tindal, dressed in black and acting suspiciously near his home. The order would prevent Tindal from coming near his California house and contacting him. The legal papers filed state Tindal "emerged from my backyard... carrying two plastic bottles filled with some sort of solvent. Apparently she was trying to poison my plants including some vegetable(s). She fled on foot and then a car sped away from the scene." Tindal had driven by his house twice in the previous three weeks. Nye also complained in an abuse report that Tindal "left a coffee pot on my porch" on August 16. However, Tindal filed a response on November 13, disagreeing with the terms of the restraining order. A hearing has been set for December 20.

Brody Escapes Death in India

Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody narrowly escaped death when he nearly crashed into a cow while speeding on a highway in India. The 34-year-old actor - who also had a life-threatening encounter with a low-hanging power line on the Indian shoot for The Darjeeling Limited - was testing the speed of his motorcycle when the animal stepped onto the road. He says, "I almost died. I was behind a tuk-tuk, one of those little motorized rickshaws, when the driver suddenly pulled to the side and revealed a cow walking away from me on the road. I jammed on the brakes, skidded and nearly slammed straight into it. I was laughing because it seemed so absurd. I was thinking, 'This is going to be the way I'll be remembered: rear-ending a cow - all the years of hard work and this is it.'"

Actor Dick Wilson Dies

Veteran actor Dick Wilson has died at the age of 91. Wilson, who appeared in TV shows including Hogan's Heroes, passed away at the Motion Picture And Television Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. He is best known for starring in over 500 television ads for toilet paper Charmin as Mr. Whipple between 1964 and 1985. In a career spanning more than 70 years, Wilson also had role in theatre, movies and on the radio. Wilson is the second Hogan's Heroes star to die this month - actress Sigrid Valdis, who played sexy secretary Hilda on the beloved TV comedy, lost her battle with lung cancer at the age of 72 last week.

Diamond: "'Sweet Caroline' Is About Kennedy's Daughter"

Veteran singer Neil Diamond has confirmed speculation his classic song "Sweet Caroline" was inspired by late President John F. Kennedy's daughter. Diamond performed the 1969 track live via satellite at Caroline Kennedy's 50th birthday party last week, and gave the hostess a magical gift - revealing she was his muse for the song. He explained how she had inspired him, as a girl, after he saw a picture of her riding a pony. Diamond says, "I've never discussed it with anybody before - intentionally. I thought maybe I would tell it to Caroline when I met her someday. I'm happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy."

Spears Steps Up Security

Troubled Britney Spears has been forced to step up security in a bid to protect her children from the media frenzy that surrounds her. The 25-year-old star fears her battle for custody with ex-husband Kevin Federline will increase the media's interest - and put her children Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James at risk. Spears' attorney Sorrell Trope tells People.com, "Recent aggressive actions by individuals who have followed (Spears) and blocked her access, with and without the children, have resulted in her decision to take certain security measures which she hopes will only be necessary temporarily, for the protection of the children. Ms. Spears hopes that she and Mr. Federline will be able to reach an agreement as to all matters concerning their children. She hopes that by not commenting on court proceedings the media attention in those proceedings will subside, which she requests for the safety and well being of the children."

Doctor Speaks Out About Death of West's Mother

The plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother the day before she died claims she most likely passed away from either a heart attack, embolism or accidental overdose. West's mom Donda West died in hospital on November following possible complications from a tummy tuck and breast reduction operation Dr. Jan Adams carried out the day before. And while Adams believes he knows the exact reason for Donda's passing, he is refusing to elaborate on this until a coroner confirms the official cause of death. Adams tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I believe I know exactly what happened to her, but I will not comment on it until I see the final report." The surgeon adds that Donda "probably (had) a rough night" after the operation and that she could have overdosed on Vicodin he prescribed her to treat post-procedure pain. Adams then told the newspaper that he wasn't commenting on Donda's case specifically, and was instead thinking of a patient who had had similar problems. He has previously denied any responsibility for her death, insisting he has "done nothing wrong."
