Online Bush IQ Hoax Catches Trudeau

A fake, yet official-sounding letter circulating on the net, which claims that President George W. Bush has the lowest IQ of any president, half that of Bill Clinton, caught comic-strip author Garry Trudeau in a faux pas last week when he cited it in his September 2nd Doonesbury strip. Trudeau offered a mea-culpa this past week, printing angry letters which called him such things as "a Mamby Pamby Commie Pinko Liberal" on the Doonesbury.com web site. In his response, Trudeau said, "This was a regrettable error, although perhaps inevitable, given that this feature uses the same fact-checking house as Saturday Night Live and The Drudge Report." He did get in a last dig, though, stating, "The creator deeply apologizes for unsettling anyone who was under the impression that the President is, in fact, quite intelligent." Kelsey Grammer is holding little hope of winning his fourth Emmy next week - because he can't find his lucky magic eight ball. The Frasier star was given the eight ball as a gift during his first series on the sitcom, and he has always shaken it to find out how his luck is going to hold up at award shows. To date, it has always been accurate in predicting whether or not Grammer is going to be a winner, but this year the actor is having to rely on faith alone. He says, "I gave it a shake that first year and asked if I was going to win and it said, 'My answer is yes, ' and I won the Emmy that year. So I thought I'm just gonna use it for that and the next year I got nominated for an Emmy and it said, 'My answer is without a doubt, ' and I won the Emmy. The next year I got nominated and it says, 'My answer is maybe, ' and I didn't win that year. The fourth year I give it a shake: 'My answer is undoubtedly, ' and I won. But I've lost it - we moved and it's in a box somewhere."
