Victor Mignatti has written, directed, and edited multi award-winning film, television, commercial and public service projects--specializing in comedy with a strong emotional hook. In January 2007, he completed co-directing and editing 10 brand new chapters of R. Kelly's Grammy Award-nominated Billboard #1 music video series Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 13-22 (2007) (V). He is currently in post-production on his feature documentary "This Time," which follows the careers of legendary recording artists and background singers the Sweet Inspirations (Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield), R&B diva Pat Hodges (Hodges, James & Smith), producer-composer Peitor Angell, and break-out New York cabaret sensation Bobby Belfry--each poised on the brink of their next moment in the spotlight. He is the writer-director of the feature film Broadway Damage (1997) and directed the People's Choice Award-nominated New Orleans season of "The Real World" (1992) as well as numerous other programs, reality specials, and pilots.
Recent work includes editing the first 12 chapters of R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 1-12 (2005) (V) as well as commercials for ABC Sports, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, "Inside Edition" (1988), Major League Soccer, Bloodrayne 2 (2004) (VG), The Food Network, and directing commercials for DZP Marketing and G-Whiz client K'NEX. Other recent television directing includes "Switched" for ABC Family and "The Palms" pilot featuring the Maloof brothers for MTV.
The romantic comedy Broadway Damage (1997) has been seen around the world as an official selection at over three-dozen international film festivals and was theatrically released in the USA by Jour de Fete Films. Critic Rex Reed called it "One of the best American Independent films in years." The film has been honored with three Best Picture Awards, toured the United Kingdom on the prestigious British Film Institute Tour and Germany on the Verzaubert Tour.
Mignatti recently co-authored the screenplay "The Phat Pack" with hip-hop emcee Kool Moe Deefor producer Ann Carli, which is set to star Kool Moe Dee, Tone Loc, Big Daddy Kane, and Doug E. Doug. Another feature comedy "Dede's Glamarama" is also in the works. Mignatti has authored and is also developing the psychological dramas "Mr. Olmsted Knows It All" and "Phantom Skyline," a story of romantic and sexual obsession set in NYC in the weeks following September 11th.
Mignatti was born and raised in Philadelphia and majored in film production at New York University and studied acting at Circle in the Square Theater School then launched his career in the sound department of Du-Art Film Labs where he enjoyed the opportunity to study the dailies of Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and the Maysles Brothers. Later, at Jupiter Films, he met TV commercial impresario Mason Boyd, who encouraged him to edit by assigning him director's cuts of commercials. He has edited for such clients as CBS News, ABC News, Cyndi Lauper, Pink Floyd, Anne Klein, Ralph Lauren, Elizabeth Arden, and Showtime. Gradually some of his editing clients gave him a shot at directing commercials. Since then he has become known for his tongue-in-cheek point of view, directing spots for such clients as Sega Genesis, Life Savers, Cablevision, PBS, and Dreyfus Financial, his favorite being the notorious Clearasil Pizza Face spot that ran for years on MTV. Mignatti has also directed many award-winning public service announcements and image films including work for the ACLU, GMHC and Channel One. He resides in New York City and is represented by The Marion Rosenberg Office in Los Angeles.
