Beckham's Birthday Week Ends With Starry Bash
22 April 2008 (WENN)
Victoria Beckham's 34th birthday celebrations looked like they'd never stop over the weekend - the former Spice Girl was the host of a star-studded party on Sunday. After partying with pals Eva Longoria Parker and Kate Beckinsale on the eve of her birthday last Wednesday and enjoying a night out with her husband David and their sons on Thursday, the pop star had big plans for Sunday. Best pal Katie Holmes played down reports of a rift between her and Beckham by showing up at the singer's Hollywood party with husband Tom Cruise. Usher, Will Smith, Gwen Stefani, Sir Elton John and pals Parker and Beckinsale also joined in the fun at the Veneto restaurant in Santa Monica, California.

Beckinsale Turns Her Back On Sexy Roles
28 March 2008 (WENN)
British actress Kate Beckinsale has vowed not to take any more glamorous movie roles - declaring her time as a "sex-bomb" is over. The 34-year-old star began her acting career in Kenneth Branagh's 1993 version of Much Ado About Nothing but graduated to action-packed adventures including Underworld and Van Helsing. But Beckinsale is now determined to turn her career around and prove herself as a serious actress. She says, "The sex-bomb thing is totally fun but you want to take the red shoes off sometimes. I've been wanting to do something more dramatic. I don't regret any of my movies but I do have a certain embarrassment about one or two of them."

Arquettes Vow To Raise $1 Million In Two Weeks for Charity
24 March 2008 (WENN)
Actress Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette have given themselves two weeks to raise $1 million for charity, to raise funds for people with an incurable skin condition. The pair want to raise the cash for the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, of which they are honorary board members, and have roped in their celebrity friends to help launch the charity into the media spotlight. Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a genetic condition which causes internal organs to blister and the skin to ulcerate and disintegrate simply by touch, leaving burn-like sores all over sufferers' bodies, which do not heal. Stars including Jennifer Aniston, Orlando Bloom, and Kate Beckinsale have vowed to help the duo generate the money within a fortnight. Cox Arquette says, "Now is such an important time to put the spotlight on EB and ensure that research can continue at a fast pace. EB is very personal to me so I'm happy to be a part of this $1 million challenge."

Walsh's Wedding Reception Left in Darkness
10 September 2007 (WENN)
Actress Kate Walsh's marriage to movie executive Alex Young almost ended in chaos earlier this month, when a heat wave left their wedding reception in the middle of a power blackout. The couple exchanged nuptials on September 1 at the Ojai Presbyterian Church in Ojai, near Los Angeles. But temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit caused problems and the reception, where stars including Kate Beckinsale and Katherine Heigl were partying, was plunged into darkness. Walsh says, "We had an unexpected heat wave and there was a blackout during the reception dinner, but fortunately there was a back-up generator. It's such a lesson in life - you can only prepare so much."

Movie Reviews: 'Vacancy'
20 April 2007 (StudioBriefing)
Horror films rarely receive much praise from critics. Vacancy, starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson, is getting quite a lot of it. Gene Seymour in Newsday writes: "The movie executes its every borrowed, nerve-bruising plot twist with such gruesome efficiency that it makes you feel as grimy, wasted and worked-over as its prospective victims." Scott Bowles in USA Today comments that "it's welcome to see another movie that relies more on apprehension and suspense than torture chambers." Lou Lumenick in the New York Post concedes that the film may appeal more to his fellow critics than it will to the target audience for such movies. "The filmmakers don't linger over the nasty stuff anywhere near long enough to satisfy gorehounds, but for the first time in quite a while you actually care about the victims -- who are not, as usual, horny teenagers," he observes. "Vacancy feels like it was made by people who love movies and perhaps have seen a lot of them," Ty Burr concludes in the Boston Globe. But Bob Strauss in the Los Angeles Daily News remarks that the film isn't much of anything. "Its main virtue is modesty, but that's also its downfall." And Manohla Dargis in the New York Times dismisses it as a "banal horror retread."

You Say You Want an 'Evolution'?
15 June 2006 (StudioBriefing)
Proving that horror flicks can have a lucrative afterlife, Sony's Underworld: Evolution, starring Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman, debuted last week at the top of the DVD sales chart, dropping the previous week's top seller, 20th Century Fox's Date Movie to No. 7, Home Media Retailing reported today (Thursday). The trade publication gave no sales figures. It also noted that the Harrison Ford thriller Firewall from Warner Bros. debuted in second place. In rentals, the two films reversed positions, with Firewall earning $10 million in rentals, edging out Underworld's $9.5 million.

The two films will compete with King Kong, Sin City and Batman Begins for the Best Movie Prize, while Virgin's Steve Carell will fight for the Best Performance honor with Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams and Terrence Howard. Batman Begins' Christian Bale, Jessica Alba (Sin City), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire), Kate Beckinsale (Underworld: Evolution) and Ewan McGregor (Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith) will fight it out for the Best Hero prize while the Best Villains race is between Harry Potter bad guy Ralph Fiennes, Darth Vader Hayden Christensen and Batman foe Cillian Murphy, among others. Correction: Beckinsale Joins Wonder Woman Race
6 April 2006 (WENN)
CORRECTION: Despite our best efforts to keep April Fools' Day (01APR) pranks out of our feeds, it seems one slipped by the censors at the weekend. Our story 'BECKINSALE JOINS WONDER WOMAN RACE' is nothing but an elaborate internet prank - and we fell for it! Kate Beckinsale, is not among the names connected to Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman film. Sorry for any inconvenience. (WENN Editors)

Beckinsale Joins 'Wonder Woman' Race
4 April 2006 (WENN)
Kate Beckinsale has reportedly joined the race to play Wonder Woman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon's upcoming comic book movie. The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September. Buffy stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter, and teen queen Lindsay Lohan have been linked to the coveted role - which was played on TV by Lynda Carter. Former hot favorite Carpenter even remarked she was putting off having a second baby in the hope of landing the dream role. She recently told a reporter, "I'd like to (have another baby) eventually, but I want Wonder Woman right now. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying."

Movie Reviews: 'End of the Spear'
20 January 2006 (StudioBriefing)
Underworld: Evolution, starring Kate Beckinsale, is expected to become the No. 1 film at the box office this weekend, but it was not screened for critics, since distributor Sony Screen Gems apparently believed that it would receive largely negative reviews. However, two other new films are also opening to dreadful notices, the Christian drama End of the Spear and Warner Independent's Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World. Most critics give Spear points for sincerity and inspiration, but few for entertainment. (Most dismiss the film in three or four paragraphs.) "This undramatic would-be piece of inspiration seems like made-for-TV fare for the Christian Broadcasting Network before it morphed into the Family Channel," writes Lou Lumenick in the New York Post.Wesley Morris in the Boston Globe describes it as "a dutiful public service announcement."

Beckinsale Laughs Off 'Affair' Claims
6 January 2006 (WENN)
British beauty Kate Beckinsale has laughed off reports she has been having an affair with a male friend behind her husband Len Wiseman's back. The Aviator actress has been happily married to Wiseman for 19 months after falling in love on the set of the first Underworld movie in 2003. Despite recent rumors their marriage was on the rocks, Beckinsale insists they are as happy as ever. Beckinsale explains, "There's a made-up story where I'm supposed to have gone rushing off to England for a secret tryst with a male friend. Well it's actually my friend's husband and they've just had a baby. Supposedly I took advantage of the swollen ankles and moved in for the kill. We have a good giggle about that one. I keep sending my friend emails saying, 'But your husband is a fantastic shag, isn't he?'"

Beckinsale Hates 'Underworld' Dolls
5 January 2006 (WENN)
Actress Kate Beckinsale is delighted movie bosses have dumped plans for a doll version of her Underworld: Revolution character Selene - because the last ones made her look like a transsexual. The 32-year-old beauty, who met her director husband Len Wiseman on the set of the original Underworld film in 2003, would prefer the plastic figurines were not made at all. She says, "I looked like someone having a sex-change op."

Jolie Turns Down Beckinsale and Electra
8 December 2004 (WENN)
Movie star Angelina Jolie is flattered she's the first choice as a female love interest for Kate Beckinsale and Carmen Electra, but she can't return the favor. At the Oscars earlier this year, Van Helsing star Beckinsale praised fellow awards guest Jolie's beauty, declaring, "I could have eaten her up with a spoon. She's so gorgeous." However when Jolie was asked by American TV network E!'s gossip columnist Ted Casablanca if she would become romantically involved with former Baywatch actress Electra or Beckinsale, Jolie replied, "No and no." Jolie says there are several women she would consider marrying, but one was recently off the market. She says, "I don't want to say her name, 'cause she just got married... to a man. (My son) Maddox's godmothers... They're two women I'd marry."

Beckinsale May Quit over Tabloid Exposure
7 December 2004 (WENN)
Hollywood actress Kate Beckinsale is threatening to quit the movie industry, because she's fed up with reading so many false stories about herself. The Underworld beauty's fame rose to prominence this year bringing with it its fair share of problems and tabloid exposure. She says, "I feel like I'm in an odd new period where suddenly it's sort of, 'Ooh, here it all is', but I don't like it very much. "Recently, for instance, I keep reading stories about myself that are totally untrue. I find myself wondering, 'Do I love my job enough to put up with that?' And I'm not sure that I do."

Beckinsale's Sex Appeal Movie Boost
3 December 2004 (WENN)
Actress Kate Beckinsale has defended her decision to star in the critically-mauled vampire movie Van Helsing - she did it to prove she's sexy. The British beauty's role in husband Len Wiseman's film Underworld was ridiculed by studio chiefs, who deemed her too motherly to successfully portray a sexy big screen character. So when she was approached to appear alongside film hunk Hugh Jackman in this year's Van Helsing, she was determined to spark the lusty desires of the male cinema-going world. She says, "One of the reasons I actually decided to do Van Helsing was that people didn't think I could play sexy. Len told me much later that when he wanted me to do Underworld, all the executives at the studio, 'But she's just not sexy - she's like someone's mom.'"

Beckinsale Hurt by "Worst Boobs" Headlines
5 November 2004 (WENN)
English actress Kate Beckinsale is hurt by tabloid reports claiming her ample bosoms are surgically enhanced and been named "the ugliest in Hollywood". The Van Helsing star has vehemently denied she has undergone cosmetic surgery and used Botox, and blames media attention surrounding the end of her long relationship with Michael Sheen last year on her racy new public image. Beckinsale says, "After the split happened I found I had this much racier image to deal with and suddenly portrayed as a woman getting loads of plastic surgery and having sex with people. My husband Len Wiseman is always saying to me, 'Go in there and move your forehead so they can tell you haven't had Botox.' I read that I've got the 'Ugliest Breasts in Hollywood/Worst Boob Job'. A friend of mine kindly sent those cuttings. But I've not had a breast job. The moment those rumors started was when people saw my stretch marks. I don't know how people think you can go from eight stone to over 12 stone when you're pregnant and not get them. I've got stretch-marks everywhere. But now it's, 'And she's had Botox and a facelift. It's a tragedy she's done so much to herself.'"

Guillory Slams "Surgically-Enhanced" Beckinsale
5 October 2004 (WENN)
Resident Evil: Apocalypse beauty Sienna Guillory has launched a scathing attack on fellow Brit Kate Beckinsale for becoming one of the "bitchy Hollywood" set and allegedly having breast implants. The London-born actress says she is horrified by Beckinsale's transition from English rose to Tinseltown movie star and believes the rumors the Van Helsing star has gone under the knife. Guillory says, "In Hollywood, women hate each other. Everyone is so bitchy and they don't want younger actresses coming in and taking their roles. You only have to look at what it's done to Kate Beckinsale. She used be cool. Now I've heard she's got a clause in her contract saying that she can't be filmed bending over at more than a 45-degree angle because her boob implants slide up onto her collar bone." Beckinsale's agent Jane Brand responds, "I do her contracts and this is absolutely untrue. She has no clause in her contracts and this is absolutely untrue. She has no such clause in her contracts and she has categorically not had breast implants."

Stefani "Backs Out of Shoot"
28 July 2004 (WENN)
No Doubt singer-turned-actress Gwen Stefani has refused to be photographed with her The Aviator co-stars Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale for the front cover of Marie Claire magazine. The shoot was to promote the release of director Martin Scorsese's new Howard Hughes biopic, in which Stefani plays Jean Harlow, Blanchett plays Katharine Hepburn, and Beckinsale is Ava Gardner. According to American website Pagesix.Com, Stefani felt her "street cred" as a musician would be damaged if she took part in the shoot.

Watts Set To Play Action Lead
1 July 2004 (WENN)
Hollywood actress Naomi Watts has landed her first action role - in new spy movie Daisy Scarlett. The Oscar-nominated star, 35, will reportedly start work on the film once she completes filming the sequel to hit horror flick The Ring. Watts's Sydney-based publicist John Cann says, "We will hopefully know something more concrete in the near future." British actress Kate Beckinsale was the original choice for the lead - but the producers wanted someone who wouldn't normally be associated with an action role. The film is to be directed by Leon film-maker Luc Besson - and will revolve around M16 agent Scarlett who investigates the deaths of high-profile people whose vital organs have been removed.

Beckinsale Blasts Insensitive 'Pearl Harbor' Director
3 June 2004 (WENN)
British movie star Kate Beckinsale hated the Pearl Harbor experience because she was made to feel ugly by the movie moguls behind the blockbuster. The pretty Van Helsing star turned to co-star Ben Affleck to help her deal with awful feelings of insecurity when insensitive director Michael Bay bluntly explained she was picked for the film because she wasn't beautiful. The actress says, "It freaked me out because I was so pleased with myself, having lost the 70 pounds after my pregnancy. I wasn't exactly what they had in mind, and when they publicized the movie, Michael would continue to say, 'We cast Kate because she wasn't too attractive.' I did find that quite upsetting and my self-esteem took a real blow from it... I became quite insecure because I was told a lot that I wasn't pretty enough. Ben Affleck was very open about it. 'This is what goes on, ' he said, and I really needed somebody to tell me it wasn't just me."

Beckinsale's Ex Gives His Blessing
11 May 2004 (WENN)
Hollywood newlywed Kate Beckinsale got a wedding blessing from her ex- partner Michael Sheen before tying the knot with director Len Wiseman on Sunday. The Van Helsing star, 30, ended her seven year relationship with the Welsh actor during the making of Underworld after falling for the film's director Wiseman in March 2003. Despite Beckinsale and Sheen's split - the pair have remained friends for the sake of their five-year-old daughter Lily. Sheen's father Meyrick says, "I spoke to Michael in his apartment in Santa Monica (California) and he was in good spirits. What happened between him and Kate is in the past now and he wished her the best of luck for her big day."

Beckinsale Compares to Winslet
7 May 2004 (WENN)
English beauty Kate Beckinsale finds it hilarious she is regularly compared to fellow Brit Kate Winslet - because the pair have never met. The Pearl Harbor star, who is set to wed her director fiance Len Wiseman in Las Vegas this weekend, laughs at Hollywood people who deem her and Winslet pals simply because they both descend from the same country. Beckinsale says, "I've never even met her. People think that just because we're English and we're both called Kate that we live on the same street." However, the brunette beauty does have children in common with Winslet. Beckinsale has a daughter, Lily, from her previous relationship to actor Michael Sheen, while the Titanic star - now married to film-maker Sam Mendes - has three-year-old Mia from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton. Beckinsale jokes, "We both have daughters and have sex with directors."

Beckinsale to Wed in Las Vegas?
3 May 2004 (WENN)
British actress Kate Beckinsale has chosen a lively city to walk down the aisle with her director boyfriend Len Wiseman - Las Vegas. According to America's "In Touch Weekly" magazine, the pair will head to the American gambling capital to exchange nuptials in between Beckinsale's publicity tours to promote her two new movies Van Helsing and The Aviator. A source says, "They want a small wedding in Las Vegas. Her five-year-old daughter Lily will be the flower girl." Beckinsale, 30, has been dating Wiseman since they met on the set of the Vampire action thriller Underworld in 2003 and had planned to tie the knot on New Year's Eve, but had no room in her frantic schedules.

Beckinsale Refuses Breast Surgery
13 April 2004 (WENN)
Van Helsing star Kate Beckinsale is keen to avoid Hollywood's obsession with plastic surgery - rubbishing reports she's had breast implants. The British beauty, 30, claims clever underwear enabled her to achieve bigger breasts in the 2001 film Pearl Harbor starring Ben Affleck. Beckinsale exclaims, "Boob job? Hell, no! I have been accused of having a boob job, but actually, it is just very helpful underwear. When I did Pearl Harbor they make these cutlety things that look like raw chicken breasts and you put them in and everything goes up. In Hawaii it was so hot, I kept taking them out and forgetting about them. Ben kept them. He told me he kept them as a souvenir. You know, 'I went home with Kate's tits.'"

Beckinsale To Wed Next Month?
2 April 2004 (WENN)
British actress Kate Beckinsale will exchange marriage vows with director beau Len Wiseman next month, according to reports. The Underworld beauty, 30, has been dating Wiseman since they met on the set of the Vampire action thriller in 2003 and had planned to tie the knot at New Year, but had no room in her frantic schedule. But now the happy couple plan to stage a romantic ceremony in Wiseman's native Los Angeles, where the pair live with Beckinsale's daughter Lily, four. Guests at the nuptials will include Kate's actress mother Judy Loe, and a special mention to her late father Richard Beckinsale will be made during proceedings. The Serendipity star hit the headlines when her romance with Wiseman was first announced as she had only just split with her daughter's father, British star Michael Sheen.

Jackman Breaks Extra's Hand
29 March 2004 (WENN)
Clumsy X-Men star Hugh Jackman accidentally broke an extra's hand on the set of his latest film Van Helsing. The Australian actor plays the legendary monster hunter alongside English rose Kate Beckinsale in the horror adventure, which is set to hit cinemas in May. The 35-year-old hunk says, "I broke an extra's hand on this thing. I was getting lifted and propelled and couldn't stop. I put my hand out and felt this guy crumple in front of me. I found out later he'd been running away. He thought I was going to fire him - for getting in the star's way."

Beckinsale in Hospital Dash
23 January 2004 (WENN)
British actress Kate Beckinsale was rushed to hospital last night after falling ill on route to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The Serendipity beauty received treatment at Los Angeles hospital Cedars- Sinai Medical Center after collapsing in pain at her home and doctors were forced to remove her appendix. Kate's spokesperson says, "Kate was all set to come to Sundance, but she felt ill and was taken to Cedars-Sinai. She underwent an operation for the removal of her appendix, which has been successful." The 30-year-old star is now recovering from her ordeal with the help of fiance Len Wiseman and daughter Lily.

Beckinsale Too Busy To Wed
24 September 2003 (WENN)
Actress Kate Beckinsale is desperate to wed her new lover - but she can't get the time off work. The British beauty didn't tie the knot with previous partner Michael Sheen, despite their becoming parents to daughter Lily - but Kate's so enamored of Len Wiseman, she's keen to marry him immediately. But Sony Pictures bosses are insisting she can't take the time off from promoting Underworld, the Wiseman-directed film which brought them together. Kate moans, "They said, 'OK, we'll give you two days.' I really wanted it to be at least a week." The happy couple have now decided to wait until the promotional duties are over before celebrating in style.

Beckinsale's Breast Demands Backfire
17 September 2003 (WENN)
Movie beauty Kate Beckinsale was left stunned after demanding her breasts be enhanced on the posters for her new film Underworld - because artists made them too big. The Hollywood star reacted by ordering photo professionals to downsize her assets, but admits the bust she sports on the final adverts is an exaggeration of her actual figure. But the embarrassing incident at least made the actress appreciate her smaller breasts, because a large chest makes her look "stupid". She says, "I got over-excited and asked them to enlarge my breasts. But they gave me such big ones I had them shaved. I wanted to see what I was like with really big boobs but it looked stupid. The poster is still a bit generous. I think it was done to please me. I still have a bit extra."

Beckinsale's Suit Problems
16 September 2003 (WENN)
British actress Kate Beckinsale hated the tight-fitting leather suit she wore for new movie Underworld - because it was too hot, too cold and she couldn't go to the toilet. The Pearl Harbor star filmed the vampire film in Budapest, Hungary, during a savage summer and a fierce winter - and the whole experience was one of her most uncomfortable. She says, "The first week of shooting we were in the subway, and in Budapest and they go from insanely hot summers to winter overnight. The first weeks were really brutal with the suit and it took a long time to peel off and it made this kind of farting noise with everybody standing outside your trailer thinking it's really funny. I couldn't cool down at first and then I couldn't get warm." Beckinsale moans she was thirsty for much of the movie making because she couldn't drink for fearing of needing to dash to the toilet. She explains, "The suit had a zipper up the front, so it was a fetish one-piece. It would've been quick but I had that corset thing so nobody offered me any water. They would by pass me because I'd have to take off the corset and then undo the suit and freeze and get it up again, so they had to dehydrate me."

Kate Beckinsale Loses Privacy Battle
1 August 2003 (WENN)
Pearl Harbor star Kate Beckinsale has had her complaint against a newspaper which published pictures of her with lover Len Wiseman and daughter Lily rejected. British tabloid The Daily Mail printed the photographs on April 15 and Beckinsale subsequently claimed her privacy had been invaded, but newspaper watchdog the Press Complaints Commission has thrown the case out. The photographs showed the Serendipity actress embracing and kissing fiance Len - who she left long-term partner Michael Sheen for - while little Lily stood by. However, the PCC ruled the headline, "Mummy's latest love scene leaves Lily unimpressed", did not breach either clause 3 of its code of practice, which relates to issues of privacy, or clause 6, which protects children from unwarranted press attention. The commission accepted the paper's argument that the photographs had been taken in a public place and did not concern the welfare of Beckinsale's daughter, and also that Lily had been photographed and mentioned in numerous articles in the past. Beckinsale contended the pictures were published without her consent and affected her daughter's welfare.

Kate Beckinsale Pulls Out of 'Underworld' Promotion
25 July 2003 (WENN)
British star Kate Beckinsale has pulled out of several promotional interviews for her new movie Underworld - fearing questions about her relationship with the film's director Len Wiseman. Brunette Beckinsale left her partner - and father of daughter Lily - Michael Sheen in January for Wiseman, and the pair are now engaged. And the Pearl Harbor star also canceled a high-profile Maxim cover shoot, reportedly embarrassing her publicist Lisa Kasteler so much she sent flowers to apologize to the magazine's West Coast editor Claudia Nicolayevsky. Kasteler has now parted company with Beckinsale.

Halle Berry Still Encased
22 July 2003 (WENN)
Oscar winner Halle Berry attended the Comic Convention Fair with other stars from her new movie Gothika - but still sported a cast on her injured right arm. Berry broke her arm two months ago while filming the movie with co- stars Penelope Cruz and Robert Downey, Jr, but still has the limb encased in a plastic cast for extra support. Other stars at the San Diego, California convention included British actress Kate Beckinsale and director fiance Len Wiseman, and Underworld actor Scott Speedman.

The pair are due to marry later this year, but first they want to find the perfect marital home and have been inspecting properties in Malibu, California. The stunning actress split with her previous long-term beau - Welsh actor Michael Sheen, by whom she has a four-year-old daughter, Lily - this spring. A source tells British tabloid The Daily Mirror, "Michael has been trying to get on with his life but he hadn't given up on the hope of a reconciliation. He has been hit badly by the news that she is going to marry. He's only just getting over the recent pictures of Kate's breasts being fondled by Wiseman during a shopping spree in Los Angeles."

Colin Farrell Links Up with Kate Beckinsale
17 March 2003 (WENN)
Hollywood star Colin Farrell has been enjoying secret meetings with newly- single Pearl Harbor actress Kate Beckinsale. The pair met at London's Sanderson Hotel on Friday night and onlookers described their behavior as very "intimate." A source close to Colin, who was recently linked to Britney Spears, tells British tabloid News Of The World, "They're very fond of each other. It's too early to say they're in a relationship. But they'll be seeing each other again for definite. After all, they're both single." Bad-boy Colin has been named as the father of model Kim Bordenave's unborn child, while Kate has recently split from long-term love Michael Sheen .

4 March 2003 (WENN)
Pearl Harbor stunner Kate Beckinsale has split from lover Michael Sheen after seven years together. The couple, who have a daughter, Lily, four, have gone their separate ways just months after moving to America when Kate's career boomed. The pair rented an apartment on the world-famous Venice Beach in Los Angeles, and became good pals with Hollywood golden-couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And while Kate worked on hit movies such as Serendipity, actor Michael gave up his career to look after Lily. But Kate's publicist Lisa Hosteller hinted that the dark-haired beauty could be in a new relationship. She says, "They separated two months ago. There was no one else involved. I don't know if she is seeing anyone else now. Kate is in Prague. I don't know where Michael is, and I can't speak for him."

Oh No, It's Yoko Ono
16 September 2002 (WENN)
Wildchild actress Bijou Phillips confused New York cafe staff recently when she tried to name drop Yoko Ono to get a table. The Bully star waltzed up to the host of boutique/eaterie Serendipity 3 - featured in the 2001 Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack romantic comedy Serendipity - where there is normally a line for a seat and asked for a table for seven people. After the host failed to recognize Bijou, who was attempting to get her boyfriend Sean Lennon and his mother Yoko Ono seating, he asked the young star for a name to put on the waiting list. Bijou replied, "Ono," to which the host mistook for "oh no," and asked, "So you don't want to wait." Bijou repeated, "Ono," leaving the confused host to ask, "What do you mean? Do you want a table?" As the rest of the line started to giggle, Bijou pointed to the Japanese popstar who was standing outside. Upon realizing his error, the host happily organized a table for the famous three and their pals. During their meal, Yoko signed postcards for the host and other diners and spent $400 on four handbags in Serendipity's boutique.

Kiss Me Kate
19 October 2001 (WENN)
Actress Kate Beckinsale's film career enabled her to kiss four different men in two weeks. Earlier this year the British beauty filmed the end of blockbuster Pearl Harbor at the same time she started filming new flick Serendipity. Besides her long term partner Michael Sheen, the stunning brunette had to pucker up on screen with Harbor co-stars Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett and Serendipity lead John Cusack. Kate laughed as she described how she fly back and forth between New York and Los Angeles, "madly kissing three different men."

Movie Reviews: Serendipity
5 October 2001 (StudioBriefing)
Several reviewers are faulting Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, for being just the opposite of what the title implies -- a happy accident. It is, writes Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe & Mail, "an exercise in the contrived and the overcalculated." Similarly, Carrie Rickey observes in the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Contrived and schematic, Peter Chelsom's film is a mechanical bird that never takes wing." Glenn Whipp in the Los Angeles Daily News comments that he never felt 86 minutes go by so slowly: "Watching it, you have the same feeling as children in school, anxious for the final bell, looking up at the clock on the wall, only to watch the second hand move in reverse." But most critics suggest that the film amounts to some pleasant fluff at a time when pleasant fluff is much needed. "The lightweight bauble is perfect entertainment for now," comments Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News. "It's spun-sugar silliness is such a relief," Jane Sumner writes in the Dallas Morning News. But Gary Thompson in the Philadelphia Daily News begins his review of the movie this way: "They say romantic comedies like Serendipity are what we can expect in times of crisis. Another reason to pray for peace."

New York Skyline Adjusted In Kate Beckinsale Movie
27 September 2001 (WENN)
Kate Beckinsale's new movie Serendipity has undergone a set of last-minute changes -- movie studio Miramax has digitally removed images of New York's collapsed World Trade Center. According to recent reports, when brief shots of the Twin Towers surfaced at the beginning of the film during a screening at Canada's Toronto Film Festival, it came as a shock to a number of the audience members. Movie bosses have now gone ahead with their decision to erase all images of the colossal pair of buildings, which were destroyed in terrorist attacks earlier this month .

Affleck's Pearl Harbor Colleagues Shocked At Rehab Reports
9 August 2001 (WENN)
Ben Affleck's admittance into rehab for alcoholism has shocked the crew who worked with him on Pearl Harbor - because they found his co-star Kate Beckinsale more problematic. The Hollywood hunk checked himself into Malibu, California, rehabilitation clinic Promises, where troubled actor Robert Downey, Jr. was also working through his drug problems last week. But his former colleagues are finding the fact hard to digest. A colleague of the star explains, "He runs fast and loose, and probably parties too much. He certainly never gave anyone a problem when we were making the film. He was always on time, and was all business." But the same couldn't always be said for Pearl Harbor's leading lady Beckinsale, according to another movie worker, who asserts the actress seemed to have a problem getting in front of cameras promptly. The British beauty was reportedly so tardy that on one occasion, director Michael Bay resorted to banging on her dressing room door and demanding she come out and get to work.

Kate Makes A Break For Hollywood

Kate Beckinsale is moving to Hollywood - to cash in on her starring role in Pearl Harbor. Beckinsale, 28, has decided to follow in Catherine Zeta-Jones's footsteps by relocating to Hollywood in the hope of breaking through into international movie star status. Although she is reluctant to leave her actress mom Judy Loe behind, Beckinsale, who will take boyfriend Michael Sheen and their two-year-old daughter Lily with her, has decided to make a permanent home in Los Angeles for the next few years. The actress has leased a luxury house in trendy Venice Beach and pals say she's keeping her fingers crossed she'll get the big break she needs. A friend says, "Kate has been inundated with offers from Hollywood. If her career takes off, she'll stay there for the next few years."

Ben Affleck: 'Matt, Are You Straight?'
19 July 2001 (WENN)
Just like in his latest hit Pearl Harbor, Ben Affleck would beat up his best friend if he slept with his girlfriend in real life. In Michael Bay's WW II-drama, Ben and Josh Hartnett have a confrontation over Hartnett's relationship with Kate Beckinsale. "Like in the movie I would give my best friend a good slapping. But seriously, I really wouldn't know what to do. I'm glad to say that such an experience has never happened to me yet. It is tough when your best friend sleeps with your lady. My best friend Matt Damon wouldn't do such a thing. But the first thing I'd ask him if he did would be, 'Wow, Matt! Are you straight?'"

Ben Affleck's Ban On Butt Shots
11 June 2001 (WENN)
Hollywood hunk Ben Affleck used a body double for a scene in Pearl Harbor - because he was too shy to show his bare bottom on screen. The bashful star refused to strip for the scene in which nurse Evelyn, played by Kate Beckinsale, has to give him an injection in his bottom. Rob McCabe, 30, stood in for Ben and another double, Breezy Dawn, provided the hand for the jab. But Ben left at least one fan disappointed by his decision not to bare. The British star will promote Lux Hair Foam for only one day to receive her unfathomable fee. A spokesman says, "This is great news for Kate. Paltrow Pulled Out Of Pearl Harbor Over Money
23 May 2001 (WENN)
Gwyneth Paltrow turned down the chance to play her ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck's love interest again because there wasn't enough money involved. The ex-lovers hit the headlines when they teamed up as a screen couple in Bounce, but Paltrow turned down the opportunity to star opposite Affleck in Pearl Harbor because the role required her to take a huge paycut. Affleck slashed his salary to just $250,000 for the film and Paltrow was replaced by British actress Kate Beckinsale. Affleck says, "Gwyneth had another thing she wanted to do. I mean you flirt with different choices as film makers and you try to figure it out. This film also required a level of commitment. It's a year of your life, there's no money. It's not an easy sell." But Affleck was pleased with Paltrow's replacement. He says, "We ended up with the best choice possible - Kate is an amazing woman and I totally fell in love with her and I could not possibly say enough good about her."

Pearl Harbor Reedited To Satisfy Japanese?
22 May 2001 (StudioBriefing)
Disney has reedited Pearl Harbor for its Japanese and German releases in order not to offend America's World War II enemies, the British tabloid The Sun said today (Tuesday). The newspaper quoted a source at the studio as saying that a closing speech by British actress Kate Beckinsale has been cut for the Japanese version. "They are a huge market and accounted for 20 per cent of profits for Titanic," the source said. "The film barely refers to the Germans but we have cut the speech for them, too. It won't make a big difference, most people know who won the war." Today's Los Angeles Times also reported that producer Jerry Bruckheimer provided a script of the movie to John Tateishi of the Japanese American Citizens League before shooting began and made changes to it that Tataishi recommended. Bruckheimer told the newspaper: "[Tateishi] had very legitimate concerns and we wanted to honor them. ... If we feel suggestions don't hurt us artistically, then we try to make changes."

The actress, who stars in bombs-and-romance epic Pearl Harbor, cannot forgive her old high school teacher Mick Fitzmaurice - for refusing her a part in a school production. She says, "Every time I get a part I think, 'Ha ha Mr. Fitzmaurice, you ****!'" But Fitzmaurice is confused by all the attention - because he doesn't recall ever teaching her! He responds, "I didn't know her. She was never a student of mine and she never auditioned for any of the productions I put on." But he good-heartedly adds, "Good luck to her. I hope she does very well."

Kate Beckinsale Has No Time For Fame
17 May 2001 (WENN)
British beauty Kate Beckinsale isn't interested in fame - because she finds it scary to be in the limelight. The Pearl Harbor actress insists that she didn't want to big star. She says, "I haven't gone out to be a star. I've not gone to premieres, parties and events, and I've not done many interviews and photo shoots. Kate Beckinsale Protects Daughter From Sights Of Carnage
10 May 2001 (WENN)
Kate Beckinsale had to protect her one-year-old daughter from the horrific sight of amputees on the set of her new movie Pearl Harbor. The British actress had her daughter on set all the time she was filming the movie, but admits there were problems when it came time to shoot the more gruesome scenes. She says, "The hard thing was when we did the hospital scenes, and they had literally hundreds of grisly men walking around. I didn't want her to see that. It's one thing for her to see me coming home with lots of lovely red paint on my hands - 'Oh Mummy's been painting'. But we had some amputees who'd been made up to look like it just happened. We used to just pull her hat down over her eyes and run when we saw anybody grisly coming towards us."

Hollywood actor Ben Affleck is prouder than ever to be an American after working on World War II film Pearl Harbor. Ben play a navys pilot in the historical drama, opposite British actress Kate Beckinsale who plays his love interest. He says, "Pearl Harbor is kind of an homage to a generation of Americans, men and women, who sacrificed and some gave of their lives to get this country out of a depression, fight a world war and build us to the strongest economic power in the world." Ben hopes the film will be received well, as a tribute to all those who worked and died during the Pearl Harbor disaster. He adds, "They were responsible, in a large measure, for a lot of the prosperity that we still experience today. It was an added debt to make this movie work and to do it well and truthfully."

Kate Beckinsale hasn't received a cent for her role in $130 million movie Pearl Harbor (2001) - yet. Beckinsale: "The New British Katharine Hepburn"
12 December 2000 (WENN)
Actress Kate Beckinsale is tipped to be the "British Katharine Hepburn", according to a Hollywood mega-producer. Movie mogul Jerry Bruckheimer - the man behind Rock, The (1996) and Armageddon (1998) - has just made the Second World War saga Pearl Harbor (2001) with an all-star cast in Hawaii - and reckons 27-year-old Kate is on the way to winning a clutch of Oscars. He says, "She is just superb. She has such subtlety and style. She can switch to humour from high drama in a split second. She reminds me a lot of Katharine Hepburn in her younger days, or of Meg Ryan some years back. If the right scripts keep coming along she is going to be huge, bigger than Kate Winslet. She just has to make the right choices and it is all there for her."

Actresses Accidentally Flash Crew

The period drama is due out this October.

7 April 2000 (WENN)
Ben Affleck has been bought down to earth - he has taken on a new job as a toilet cleaner. The actor who is in intensive training for his upcoming role in Pearl Harbor (2001) has spent the past week being put through his paces at a real life bootcamp. But Affleck says his experience of the army has been nothing compared to his best pal Matt Damon's preparation for Saving Private Ryan (1998). Affleck says, "We thought it was going to be an actor kind of boot camp where they teach you how to salute... It wasn't quite like that. it was more like the first 20 minutes or Full Metal Jacket (1987) but it was extraordinary... I don't think I scrubbed a urinal in my entire life." Affleck jetted out to Hawaii to film the multi-million dollar( pound) movie last weekend. British actress Kate Beckinsale will play the nurse his character falls in love with.
